Moscow, Apr 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Church of Scientology suffered a major blow this week in Russia as the Russian Prosecutors declared that the texts and other materials put to use by the founder of Scientology L. Ron Hubbard has been ruled as “extremist” and are banned in the state. The material that has been listed as banned include reportedly 28 books some audio-video recordings which contain lectures by L. Ron Hubbard.
The ban on the material was brought by a city of Surgut court in eastern Siberia. It decided to ban the literature after finding it’s content to be “extremist”. In a statement it was mentioned that the banned Scientology texts contain statements that try to motivate people to commit crime that are in turn motivated by religious and ideological hatred. The statement also maintains that the ideas contained in the texts justify violence in general and “in particular any methods of resistance against critics of Scientology”.
The Scientology that had been recognized as a religion in United States back in the year 1993, boasts of followers like Hollywood star Tom Cruise and John Travolta. The Church of Scientology maintains that the religion wants to free the world of “war, crime and insanity”. On Wednesday after the Russian Prosecutors banned the Scientology texts and other materials in the Country, the Moscow-based spokesman for the Church of Scientology Yury Maksimov said to a media source that there has been some kind of mistake in the understanding of the texts as the same texts are distributed all over the world. However, there are many European countries that is skeptic about the religion and its teachings.
