Roy Anthony Heaps’ family feud disrupts flight
October 27th, 2010 - 6:03 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattToronto, Oct 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A 44-year-old British man has been arrested by the Canadian police after causing a UK bound plane from Florida to make an emergency stop in Canada.
The man, Roy Anthony Heaps allegedly disrupted the flight when he engaged in heated argument with his wife and father-in-law on the flight.
The Boeing 747-400 Virgin Atlantic plane’s crew reported that they had to make the emergency landing because Roy was being disruptive with his argument with his family. The plane eventually landed in Gander Newfoundland.
Roy who was reported drinking heavily on the plane, and was placed in custody and arraigned before a court where he was charged with assault, mischief, uttering threats and interfering with an aircrew. The court remanded Roy into custody and he is billed to appear before the court again today.
The incident was confirmed by Virgin Atlantic but they declined further information because the case was already in court.
It seems the incident was lost on some of the passengers because one passenger wrote on Virgin Atlantic’s website the following, “The turbulence had been bad and when told we had to land urgently, with no explanation, myself and my family were absolutely terrified and were convinced we were about to die. We had no knowledge of the unruly passenger”
The flight continued to its destination in Manchester, UK with Roy’s relatives on-board. The episode however did cost the passengers three hours delay. The plane was carrying some 451 passengers and its 17-crew members.
