romel-broomRomell Broom, the prisoner who was convicted on the rape and murder of a 14 year old girl, was supposed to be executed on Tuesday. But the sources reveal that the execution of the convict has reportedly been delayed for a week after the execution team literally struggled for two hours or so to find the veins of Broom in order to inject the toxic chemicals via IV tubes, that would have carried out the execution.

Broom’s attorney appealed to stop the procedure, describing it to be a “cruel” one. Following the failed execution, Gov. Ted Strickland on Tuesday reportedly announced that the execution to be delayed for one week, after the execution specialists reportedly struggled with the 53 year old Broom to locate the vein in order to inject the lethal chemicals.

The reprieve marked the first of its kind as no Ohio governor as issued a last minute announcement thereby delaying the execution process for one week since the state of Ohio resumed the process of execution in the year 1999. The state of Ohio has witnessed as many as 32 executions since coming to terms in the year 1999.

According to sources, none of the executions were delayed for such a hefty period although reports confirm that several of the executions were forced to delay for one hour or so since the team of executioners failed to attach the IV (intravenous) tubes properly for the fatal injection.

The 53 year old Romell Broom had been sentenced to death for the rape and murder of a 14 year old girl, Tryna Middleton in the year 1984.
