Oct.31, New York (THAINDIAN NEWS) Lenora Karolys was restored to her mother on Thursday, 29th of October after being abducted nearly two years back by her father. She was found abandoned in an orphanage many miles away from Beijing, the city from where she had disappeared. It took Olivia Karolys, the child’s mother, an enormous amount of effort to locate her lost child in a foreign city where she had just arrived. She was penniless, could not speak Chinese and it was difficult finding anyone who could speak any English.
Olivia had come to China with her daughter at the call of her husband. Her daughter was only a little over two years of age. Her husband, Rodrigo Karolys was not present for his daughter and was prone to abuse his wife. Income was unsteady as he kept changing jobs. Things seemingly took a turn for the better when he moved to China after securing a job as an English teacher. He communicated with his wife, asking her to shift to China as he felt that theirs should be a whole family.
It was a carefully conducted plan that Olivia fell for. As she stood in the airport, her husband went missing with Lenora. He later told her via an online journal called “Rodrigo Karolys LiveJournal” that she would lose the fight. In it, he vented his anger. It gave Olivia the road she needed to reach him. Olivia persevered despite overwhelming odds, and after two years of internet investigation and legal advocacy, she finally got back her child amidst cheers and balloons. Mr. Karolys is being held at the Metropolis Detention Center. He is not allowed to be bailed. His wife was awarded a Green Card.
