Rio Vista, CA, woman sentenced for defrauding the IRS

SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) – A Rio Vista, California, woman was sentenced on Tuesday to six months imprisonment for subscribing to a false tax document, U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner announced.

Virginia Ferrari, 52, was also sentenced to six months of home confinement while serving one year of supervised release, a fine of $25,000, and a restitution payment to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) of $913,574.

Ferrari submitted to the IRS an “offer in compromise” to settle for $19,000 debts owed to the IRS, $913,574 for a trust fund recovery penalty and $44,140 income liability, and interests and penalties.

Ferrari demonstrated a continuing pattern of behavior by concealing assets that would be available to pay her debt to the IRS. She omitted four parcels of real property and a bank accounting her financial statement.

The defendant also lied to the probation officer by saying that her home was sold in foreclosure when in reality it was sold in over $2 million.
