Oct 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A new volt car is creating a lot of buzz among the car aficionados. The car still manages to gather a fair amount of attention from the consumers and the new type of motoring that has been introduced is just an icing on the cake. Yet the car has garnered certain negative reviews from the critics. For example in 2009, General Motors had made an announcement that the 2011 Chevy Volt could achieve 230 miles per gallon. The EPA rating for the car has not yet been announced, but reports that the 230 miles per gallon claim has been dismissed by EPA. The EPA rating is expected to be given soon but no0 fixed date has not been provided yet. The car is reportedly capable of traveling for 25 to 50 miles on battery power and also has a gas engine to keep the car moving after the battery is exhausted.
One argument against the car is that it requires premium gas and will result in an increased expense on part of the customers. General Motors have much expectations from the car, with the company hoping that it becomes America’s preeminent green vehicle. Tony DiSalle, Volt marketing Chief expressed himself saying that the car will have consumers appreciating it and that the volt is capable of lifting the whole company. However some analyst are not sounding so hopeful. They are of the view that Toyota has already got Prius in the market which has made a lot of money.
It is also being said that it will take sometime before General Motors starts to make any profit on the car, as they have a huge amount invested in it. General Motors is planning to launch only 10,000 Volt cars in the first year and around 30,000 cars in 2012. Sources reveal that Volt will be launched in the month of December in California, New York City, Washington D.C., Austin, Texas and then it will hit the showrooms of Michigan, Ne Jersey and Connecticut by the first quarter of 2011.
