Wiltshire, June 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Stonehenge witnessed about 20,000 revelers who flocked together at Wiltshire to mark the Summer Solstice.
Each one of them wanted to be the first one to see the sun as it rose high above the ancient structure at the dawn of the day. Quite different from last year’s Summer Solstice, the cops called the gathering this year to be a safe one. Compared to last year there was very less ruckus. However the cops did take 34 people in their custody for drug offenses. The people witnessed how the sun rose sharp at 4.52am.
Following the sunrise, there were cheers and applauds from the crowds who had gathered at the Salisbury Plain to be witness to this grand moment.
Last year the revelers who visited the Stonehenge were 36,500 in total which made it really tough for the cops to manage the entire situation. When asked about it, the cops told the media that this year the total crowd is only 20,000 which is lot lesser than last year. As an obvious result, the operation and the controlling of the crowd had become much easier.
Some of the revelers felt that owing to the fact that the summer solstice had fallen on a Monday morning which is the first day of the week, people had gathered in less numbers. Victoria Campbell, an English told the media that the summer solstice holds immense importance for one who follows the pagan roots.
In spite of the fact that the revelers visiting the Stonehenge were less in numbers, the police said that they had taken heavy precautions and had planned “all eventualities”.
