Nov 9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Sgt. First Class C.J. Sadell, 34, died on October 24 from his injuries while serving in Afghanistan. However, to some media outlets the death of C.J. Sadell has given yet another opportunity for the Westboro Baptist Church to present their “Christian” values to the citizens of Weston, Missouri and block the funeral of late Sergeant. However, this protest was not taken lightly by the residents and they flocked together to block the pastor and the members of Westboro Baptist Church from protesting the funeral.
The media outlets reported that there were hundreds of Missouri residents and people from California and Australia rallied together to support Sgt. First Class C.J. Sadell’s funeral. The whole residents of Missouri blocked Fred Phelps, the leader of Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka and also his followers from picketing the late sergeant’s funeral. According to Fred Phelps and his followers, funeral is a platform to show that there is a “consequence” for sin. The pastor also openly opposes homosexuality and all the policies that support homosexuals.
One of the residents, Rebecca Rooney of Weston who was there in the rally, said that she is “glad” that the protesters left and at the same time she is sad that they came to protest. The Missouri residents remembered Sgt. First Class C.J. Sadell and said that he did not die “in vain” and all the citizens remember him. The Westboro Baptist Church led by Fred Phelps believes that God is presently punishing United States of America for legalizing abortion and also for tolerating homosexuality. The media outlets report that Westboro Baptist Church’s present focus is free speech right and family’s private mourning, which they oppose.
