Renowned Civil Rights Activist Percy Sutton Passes Away

New York, Dec.27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Much acclaimed civil rights activists Percy Sutton, who was known to be one of the most competent black political leader, passed away on Saturday, sources reveal. The reputed politician who played a significant role in the fight for equal rights of the African American community, was a renowned business tycoon, who made a mark for himself in the media industry. Although, Percy Sutton was the son of a slave, he emerged as one of the most successful political and business icon of the country.
A spokesperson for Gov. David Paterson, Marissa Shorenstein, validated the news of Percy Sutton’s death and added that as of now no information has been available regarding the cause of the death of the 89 year old civil rights activist. Meanwhile, Percy Sutton was known to be one of the best attorneys of the nation, who was known for arguing the case of controversial civil rights activist Malcolm X. However, this was just the beginning of his illustrious career, as he became the Manhattan Borough President in the year 1965, with the majority of votes going in his favor. However, later he ran for the post of New York City Mayor but was defeated as Congress leader Ed Koch grabbed the position.
While reacting to Percy Sutton’s demise, Gov. David Paterson described the veteran politician as a mentor and one of the most enigmatic African-American leaders. Moreover, he also emphasized that the illustrious body of work of the civil rights activist would continue to act as a source of inspiration for the future generations of African-Americans.
