Remains of Missing Nurse Phuong Le Found
May 12th, 2010 - 1:59 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonMay 11 (THAINDIAN NEWS) In an announcement which was reported by CBS News, the Fairfield Police Department stated that they have identified the remains of a body which was found alongside a Napa County highway as the nurse, Phuong Le who had been missing for two weeks after being last seen at a Barnes and Noble bookstore in Fairfield.
Larry Todd, the chief of police in Fairfield, California stated that the cause of death will not yet be revealed because of the sensitive nature of the case, but he did say that the death of the 24 year old woman is being investigated as a homicide.
Le’s family was told of the discovery of the remains on Friday, and waited on pins and needles all weekend to hear the news of whether or not this was indeed their beloved Phuong Le. According to Moody, the remains had been in the spot where they were found on Highway 121 for “quite some time”. An unidentified woman who was walking her dog along the highway spotted the remains and called the police. The family was then told by the police that a body matching the description was found, with similar possession to those which Le was said to have had on her when she went missing. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) worked with the local police to help identify the remains of Le, whose identity was confirmed by her fingerprints. Le’s brother, Dinh Le told CBS that he has not been told anything about how she died, or if the police have any suspects.
The police seemed to be frustrated at a press conference which was held on Monday afternoon. They were confronted with many rumors which had circulated about the case since the disappearance of Le, and their aggravation at the falsehoods was apparent. Lt Moody answered a very sharp negative repsonse when asked if the victim was expecting a baby. Le was not pregnant. Her family stated that she had recently passed her nursing license exam and often studied at the bookstore from which she disappeared.
