Religion extinct in nine nations
March 22nd, 2011 - 11:46 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Mar 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Religion has been listed on the endangered list of about nine nations. A new census data has revealed that pretty soon religion would be a thing of the past in Australia, Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Switzerland.
The results of the study were announced during the American Physical Society meeting in Dallas. The researchers examined the number of people in each country who reported that they do not belong to any religious group. The researchers were quick to add that the results of the study were just “suggestive results”.
University of Arizona’s Richard Wiener was part of the researchers and gave some perspective into the data that were collected.
“In a large number of modern secular democracies, there’s been a trend that folk are identifying themselves as non-affiliated with religion; in the Netherlands the number was 40 per cent, and the highest we saw was in the Czech Republic, where the number was 60 per cent,” Wiener said.
Atheism is growing in most parts of the world and the researchers based their conclusions on the assumption that every person is influenced equally.
