GENEVA, SWITZERLAND (BNO NEWS) – The International Red Cross on Monday said one of its staff members, Laurent Maurice, was released after three months in captivity.

Maurice, a French national, was abducted in eastern Chad on November 9, 2009. He was held in captivity for 89 days. He is tired but appears to be in good health, the organization said. Maurice, an agronomist, was abducted in Kawa, while he was carrying out an assessment of the recent harvest.

“The ICRC is relieved that Laurent is now free, and happy that he will soon be back with his family and friends,” said Jordi Raich, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross’ delegation in Sudan.

Gauthier Lefèvre, another Red Cross staff member, was taken hostage on October 22, 2009 in West Darfur and is still being held captive.
