May 11 (THANDIAN NEWS) Hillary Anderson of the BBC has reported today that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has conformed earlier suspicions that there is a second ’secret’ prison site at Bagram in Afghanistan. Although stories of the prison’s existence had long since surfaced, this was the first confirmation of the prison which the Afghans are said to call “Tor Prison” or “The Black Prison.”

Conflicting stories from the U S government state “The US military says the main prison, now called the Detention Facility in Parwan, is the only detention facility on the base. However, it has said it will look into the abuse allegations made to the BBC.”

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said that US authorities have been notifying them since August 2009 of the names of prisoners who were detained in a separate structure at Bagram. They went on to say that a U S Air Base in Afghanistan which already held a main prison has formed this second “secret prison” and is using it to hold these prisoners. Nine former detainees of the “Black Prison” stated to BBC that they were held in a separate building and abused, kept in isolation cells where it was cold, and the lights were never turned off. They also added that the US military personnel would not allow them to sleep. Although Vice Admin Robert Harward, who is the head of the U S detention in Afghanistan denied the existence of the second prison, the U S military has agreed to look into the allegations which were made to the BBC.
