Washington DC, May 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The death of two boys have led to the massive recall of toy dart gun. The recall is going to affect some 1.8 million-toy dart guns, which were sold exclusively in the Family Dollar Stores. The product is called “Auto Fire” and it was manufactured in China, and sold exclusively by the Family Dollar stores from September 2005 to January 2009.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued the recall order and it said that the dart was small enough to get stuck in the throat and thereby cause choking in children. A 10-year-old boy Desman and another 9-year-old boy from Chicago have died from asphyxiation after swallowing the dart.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has warned parents to return their dart toy guns to the Family Dollar store, for refund or better still throw them out to avoid another tragedy. According to the CPSC, the leading cause of toy related deaths in children is airway obstruction from small parts.
This is not the first time that a dart gun has been recalled because it caused the death of a child. An 8-year-old boy also swallowed a dart and died, and that had also led to the massive recall of the gun involved.
