Recall Of P & G Pet Food Expands To Specialty Products
August 7th, 2010 - 8:14 pm ICT by Pen Men At WorkAugust 7, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Pet food recall has now expanded to include popular brands Iams and Eukanuba as well. The specialty brands of dry dog food manufactured by Proctor and Gamble have been a cause of concern due to contamination by Salmonella.
Both these brands are sold in the clinics of veterinarians as well as retailers who stock pet foods. The recall will affect the stocks across the United States and Canada. The canned foods, biscuits or other treats will not be recalled though. The supplements remain unaffected too.
The foods that have been recalled include all sizes and varieties of dry pet foods which display the UPC codes with the Best by” dates of 01Jul10-01Dec11
The popular varieties of Eukanuba Pure, Eukanuba Custom Care Sensitive Skin, Eukanuba Naturally Wild and Iams Veterinary Dry Formulas are included within the specific foods that are being recalled.
Proctor and Gamble recalled 5.5 pound bags of Iams Veterinary Formula Feline Renal last week. The company had also warned people that handling of the dry pet food may result in Salmonella contamination. People who do not wash their hands properly after handling the pet food may have an increased chance of getting infected by the harmful bacterium.
Salmonella contamination is regarded as a serious threat. It is a bacterium that causes food poisoning. It is known to cause fatal consequences in small children, the elderly as well as people who have imperfect immune systems. The company, however, denied reports of any of their products being linked to illnesses.
