pink-d1 London, Nov 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A very rare pink diamond has made history by being sold for a whooping 29 million pounds at an auction. The pink diamond is valued at 24.78 carats and is said to be a “fancy intense pink” diamond. According to reports, it was bought by a British dealer Laurence Graff at the Sotheby’s auction, which was held in Geneva.

Prior to this auction, it was sold by a jeweler based in New York, some 6 decades ago. After that, it had been a part of a private collection, till its recent sale.

After fetching a whooping 29 million pounds, it has also managed to create a record for commanding the highest price for a piece of jewelry at an auction. Prior to this, the tag was held by another diamond, which was of 35.56 carats. Even though its carat-weight was higher than that of the pink diamond, yet it had managed to get a winning bid of just 15.2 million pounds at its auction, which was held 2 years ago.

“This is the highest price ever bid for a jewel at auction. There’s only one or two other stones I’ve seen like this in the 35 years I’ve been doing this job,” according to David Bennett, who is the head of Sotheby’s jewelry division.
