Oct 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Not many would have imagined in their wildest dreams that Jon Stewart’s Rally To Restore Sanity would turn out to be an affair that will garner more than twice the crowd gathered at the Glenn Beck Rally. Considering that its an important month in terms of American politics, it was interesting to note that the rally organized by the fake news TV show host managed to pull in such a huge number. The three hour event, however, had its own share of highs and lows for the crowds but overall most of the people rallying went home happy.
The first and biggest high for the crowd was the performance by John Legend with The Roots. After the performance however, the crowd became slightly restless when the The Roots played on. The slight lull was quickly gone when Jon Stewart announced Yusuf Islam on stage and then came the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne. The crowd went berserk at this point and things could not get better than the two legends being interrupted by the comedians and the concert turning into a battle of bands.
The reaction of the crowd was also slightly dull when the pro-sanity leader made a big build up to announce Kid Rock on stage. It appeared as if the crowd was expecting a bigger star. Another complain that the crowd had towards the back was that the speakers were not loud and there were shouts of ‘Louder’ heard in the rally.
While CBS claims that 215,000 attended the three-hour event, while another source said that around 250,000 people had turned up. The Parks Services also confirmed that more than 200,000 people had gathered near the Capitol Mall in Washington DC.
