queen July 6, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Queen Elizabeth II of Britain is headed for her New York visit today, which is her first visit there in the last 34 years. It will be her seventh visit to the United Nations General Assembly in her 57-year reign as Britain’s monarch.

The Queen will address the U.N. General Assembly and visit the partially reconstructed site of the World Trade Center, which was destroyed on the 11th September, 2001 terrorist attacks.

On Monday, she visited the headquarters of BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion in Canada and the 84 year old Queen was gifted a Blackberry Smartphone. She was in Canada with her husband Prince Philip to celebrate its national holiday on July 1.

In 1957, the Queen Elizabeth II last addressed the UN General Assembly calling for human rights and world peace. At that time, she was 31 years old and it had been just four years after being crowed as queen. On the last day of her nine-day visit to Canada, she was slated to dine with the prime minister.

Today, the speech of Her Majesty is likely to call for world unity and peace again. According to a former aide, some personal thoughts of the Queen will be included in the speech, which she gained from her long observation of world affairs.

Dickie Arbiter, a former press secretary to the Queen, informed, “This is going to be strong message from the British head of state. The speech will be delivered on behalf of the British government.”

Her last stop in the US will be at Lower Manhattan in the British Garden, Hanover Square. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony which will officially open the site, the Queen will be greeted by 50 families of the victims of 9/11.
