Queen Elizabeth II to visit New York today

ipad New York, July 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Royal head of Great Britain - Queen Elizabeth II will tour New York today. The Queen will be visiting New York from Canada, where she was presented with a Blackberry phone.

The Queen who is 84 years old, will also address the United Nations General Assembly. It will be her second address to the General Assembly since she ascended the throne. Her first speech to the General Assembly was in 1957.

The Queen will also visit ‘Ground Zero’ where the World Trade Center previously stood. At the ‘Ground Zero’, the Queen and her husband will lay a wreath at the site.

Queen Elizabeth II has just completed a nine-day visit to Canada. During her visit to New York, the Queen will also meet those who lost their relatives during the 9/11 attacks. The attacks claimed the lives of more than 3000 people including firefighters and policemen. Some of the victims of the 9/11 attacks were British citizens. It is estimated about 67 British citizens were killed during the attack. Britain is currently engaged in the fight against terrorism with the United States.

The Queen will also open the British Memorial Garden in New York. The memorial park is dedicated to the British souls who died during the attacks.
