Queen Elizabeth II to address the U.N. General Assembly in July

Queen Elizabeth II LONDON (BNO NEWS) — Queen Elizabeth II will address the United Nations General Assembly in July, Buckingham Palace said on Friday. It will be the first time she addresses the Assembly in more than 50 years.

Queen Elizabeth II will arrive in New York on July 6, while accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh. Before her visit to New York, she will make an official visit to Canada from June 28 until her departure to New York on July 6.

The Queen will address the United Nations as the Head of State of the United Kingdom and 15 other nations, who are all member states of the United Nations. She will speak as the head of state of the United Kingdom, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu.

Her visit to the United Nations is expected to last only several hours. The Queen, together with the Duke of Edinburgh, will depart for London the same evening.

It will be the first time the Queen addressed the U.N. General Assembly in more than 50 years. The last time was in 1957.
