gdNew Hampshire, Mar 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Doris Haddock, better known as her pulpit pseudonym “Granny D,” passed away on Tuesday, in the residence of her son in Dublin in New Hampshire. She was a hundred years old at the time of her death, having celebrated her centenary birthday just about two weeks prior to her death. According to the reports of the members of her family, she succumbed to a respiratory problem that she had been suffering from for quite a long time. Her family also commented that “Granny D” had been quite up and about even a few days before her death. However, just before her death, “Granny D” fell victim to a relapse of the respiratory problem.

A memorial service for the noted political activist is about to be held in the Dublin Community Church in New Hampshire, on Sunday. It has been reported that the memorial service is going to be a public one. The bereaved family has been flooded with condolences since the news of the death of “Granny D” became public. Not only the state offices, but also the federal offices have expressed their loss at the death of one of the most remarkable political activists of the day.

“Granny D” is best remembered for the long walk that she had embarked upon, a whopping 3,200 miles, made even more staggering with the weight of her age, a ripe 89, in order to draw the attention of a finance reform she felt was necessary. At the age of 94, she ran for a seat in the Senate, against an influential Republican candidate who was also the incumbent Senator.
