Protesters attack Iranian embassy in Sweden during death penalty protest
May 13th, 2010 - 11:51 pm ICT by BNO NewsSTOCKHOLM (BNO NEWS) — Dozens of protesters tried to storm the Iranian embassy in Stockholm during a rally against the death penalty on Thursday, local media reported.
The protest was scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. local time but began earlier. The situation escalated quickly, with protesters throwing stones and Molotov cocktails. Around 2.30 p.m local time, about 70 people tried to storm the embassy. Police managed to stop the protesters from entering the building.
According to the Dagens Nyheter newspaper, one protester was injured to his arm but refused to be taken to the hospital when an ambulance arrived at the scene. Instead, he chose to remain at the scene in order to continue participating in the demonstration.
In total, around 250 demonstrators gathered outside the embassy to protest against the death penalty. At least ten people were arrested.
