London, Aug 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Bury Council has been criticized for their decision to give bin-men iPads to do their job. The council members have been criticized for misplacing their priorities at the time when they are planning on cutting the town’s budget.

The town hall legislators have agreed to buy 22 of the gadgets for the bin collectors to aid in their work. Some taxpayers have called the move an insult to them especially at the time when the council is facing budget deficit of £18 million.

A taxpayers’ group in the United Kingdom, Taxpayers’ Alliance have added their voice to the criticism. The campaign manager of the group, Robert Oxley, said that, “It beggars belief that a council making huge savings can find this money to splash out on iPads. Residents want bin services that are reliable and efficient, not council staff monitoring what they’re throwing out with expensive gimmicks. It’s an insult to local residents who are tightening their belts in tough times that the council is wasting their money on fanciful ideas like this.”

On the street value, an iPad is sold at around £400. The cost is minus the training and installation costs which the council will also have to come up with.
