Prince William and Kate Middleton Engaged to Marry in London

Nov 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The British have been eagerly awaiting the next fairytale royal wedding for years, and were very excited to hear of Prince William’s engagement to Kate Middleton, after a rather lengthy eight year courtship. According to Prince Charles’s Clarence House office, the father of the groom to be was “”delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton.”

The young couple have had a bit of an “on again off again” relationship ever since they met over eight years ago in Scotland at the University of St. Andrews. During a recent vacation in Kenya, the two became engaged.

Prince William gave his bride the ova sapphire and diamond engagement ring which his father gave to his mother, Princess Diana. Although the ring actually belonged to William’s younger brother, Harry was said t have been glad to let William give it to Kate, who could very well be the future wife of the King of England.

Prime Minister David Cameron was told about the engagement during a cabinet meeting, and sent his best wishes for the couple, adding that he was delighted for them.

Prince William also asked Kate’s father permission to marry his daughter, as is tradition. The couple are expected to marry in London in the spring or summer of 2011, but no plans have been revealed as of yet.
