London, June 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Queen Elizabeth’s husband Prince Philip has marked his 90th birthday on Friday. The Duke of Edinburgh - Prince Philip’s official name – spent the day in a quiet way. He supported his charity for the deaf on the day by hosting a lunch.

Age has done very little to take away the sense of humor of Philip. He also seems to be in a remarkable health considering his age. The highlight of the day was when he announced that he will cut down on his official duties and slip back to the background.

During an interview with BBC, Philip announced that, “I reckon I’ve done my bit. I want to enjoy myself for a bit now. With less responsibility, less rushing about, less preparation, less trying to think of something to say. On top of that your memory’s going, I can’t remember names. Yes, I’m just sort of winding down.”

The Queen gave her husband a fitting birthday present when she conferred on him the title of Lord High Admiral of the Navy. The Queen has held on to the centuries-old title since 1964.

The Band of the Irish Guards set the atmosphere alight when they played “Happy Birthday” outside the Buckingham Palace.
