November 21st, 2011 - 8:29 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Nov 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) British monarch Prince Philip has described wind farms as “absolutely useless.” According to 90-year-old, the project would not work because they were “completely reliant on subsidies.”
The UK government announced recently that they plan to shift the country’s energy source on wind farms. The country believes that renewable forms of energy will help the country’s long term needs.
Former Chancellor Lord Lawson described as spot-on the comments of the Duke of Edinburgh.
Infinergy has been contracted to build turbines around the United Kingdom. The company’s managing director Esbjorn Wilmar met with the Duke and that was when he made the comments.
Wilmar responded to the comments by saying, He said that they were absolutely useless, completely reliant on subsidies and an absolute disgrace. I was surprised by his very frank views.”
He explained that when he tried to explain things to the Duke, he asked him “‘You don’t believe in fairy tales do you?”
Lord who is the former Tory Chancellor and leading climate change critic told reporters that the Duke said it as it is. He explained that it is not true that wing power comes without a cost.
Britain currently has about 3,421 turbines and plans to increase it to produce 15 percent of the energy needs of the country.
