Press Secretary Gibbs comments on Senate introduction of Home Star Legislation
May 28th, 2010 - 4:43 am ICT by BNO NewsWASHINGTON D.C. (BNO NEWS) — White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs commented on Thursday about the reintroduction of the Home Star Retrofit Act by a bipartisan group of Senators, the White House Press Office announced.
On May 6, the Home Star Legislation was passed by the House of Representatives with bipartisan support. The Senate reintroduced the bill with a new version referred to the Senate Finance Committee.
“This rebate program will not only put people back to work in our construction and manufacturing sectors, it will lower costs for homeowners who choose to improve their home with products like energy-efficient windows, water heaters and air conditioners,” Gibbs said.
The Home Star Retrofit Act was designed to create jobs by providing incentives for residential energy efficiency improvements. The bill provides approximately $6 billion of incentives to American people. The program expects to drive new private investment into the construction and manufacturing sectors, while saving consumers money on their energy bills.
“We look forward to working with the Senate so we can help more middle class homeowners make these investments without delay.”
