CARACAS, VENEZUELA (BNO NEWS) — The president and owner of the Venezuelan TV channel Globovision, Guillermo Zuloaga, was arrested Thursday as he attempted to leave the country, the Caracas-based channel said.

When Zuloaga was at a Falcon state airport in northwest Venezuela, he was told first there was a problem with a computer system and then that he had to wait a commission to escort him back to Caracas, Globovision said.

National Assembly Deputy Manuel Villalba told CNN en EspaƱol that he requested a probe because Zuloaga disseminated false information about President Hugo Chavez during a media meeting in the Dutch Caribbean island of Aruba.

Villalba told the Atlanta-based news channel that there are no political prisoners in Venezuela but there are political activists imprisoned because they had broken the law by causing division among Venezuelans.

After Zuloaga’s anti-Chavez comments, Villalba accused him of treason.
