WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) – President Obama on Monday declared a state of emergency exists for California after the State was struck by severe winter storms.

President Obama ordered Federal aid to supplement State and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by the winter storms, flooding, debris, and mud flows from the period of January 17 to February 6.

Funding is available to State and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged in the counties of Calaveras, Imperial, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Siskiyou.

Federal funding is also available for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

FEMA said that additional funding may be made available at a later date if damage surveys determine that warranted.
