Powerful 7.1-magnitude quake strikes near Vanuatu - USGS
May 10th, 2011 - 4:33 pm ICT by BNO NewsNEW YORK (BNO NEWS) — A powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck close to the island nation of Vanuatu on early Tuesday evening, seismologists said, but no tsunami warnings were issued.
The 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck about 135 kilometers (84 miles) southwest of Isangel in Vanuatu, which is located in the South Pacific Ocean. It struck about 26.5 kilometers (16.5 miles) deep, making it a shallow earthquake.
