Oct 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A man from Portugal has underwent major surgery to have a tumor which weighed 5 kgs removed from his face. Jose Mestre was in a Chicago hospital for three months in order to have the procedure done, which should help him to eat and sleep better as well as improve his breathing.

A report from ‘ABC” reveals that doctors had determined Mestre would have died without the surgery. The translator for the 54 year old stated, “He finally has a chance to lead sort of a normal life because before he felt that, even though he never chose to, he was the center of attraction wherever he went.”

The growth began to form on his face when he was just fourteen years old, and he became to be known as “the man without a face”. Doctors say that it will still be at least a year before it is clear whether or not he will fully recover, but they remain hopeful, as does his family.
