popeNov 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Pope Benedict XVI has made a statement in his latest book that is sure to take the catholic world by storm. Though the book is due to be out this Tuesday, some of the extracts are already doing the rounds on the web. From one of the these excerpts, the use of condoms has been justified in some cases. The statement is a far cry from the fundamentals of the Church which condemns any form of contraceptive measures. The new book named ‘Light Of The World: The Pope, The Church, The Sign Of The Times’ has already created waves before its release as the Pope is seen talking about condoms in a less critical light.

In the book, the Pope explains that the use of condoms by prostitutes is the first step towards ‘moralization’. He, however, added that condoms might not be the most effective way to deal with the spread of the HIV/AIDS. On being asked directly whether the Church was changing its stance on condoms, the Pope explained that it does not view condoms as a real or moral solution but in the case of prostitutes it is justified somewhere as it prevents the spread of the infection. He called it the more human way of living sexuality.

The book, which has been written in the form of an interview with the Pope, also features some interesting viewpoints of the Pope on sexuality that is sure to create a buzz. He said in the book that the most effective and moral way to stopping the spread of AIDS is to follow the ABC principle which stands for Abstinence-Be Faithful-Condom.
