Pope Benedict XVI Turin, May 2 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Pope Benedict XVI visited the ‘Shroud of Turin’ on Sunday. The ‘Shroud of Turin’ is a linen cloth, in which there is a very clear image of a crucified man on it, which the faithful Christians believe is that of ‘Jesus Christ’. However there are skeptics too, who say that the image is a fake and so is the Shroud of Turin. However Pope Benedict XVI went to visit and pray before it too.

This is the first time that the linen cloth has been put on display in the past decade. The shroud is 14 foot long and it is 1 meter wide. It has also been restored in 2002, and it is currently kept safe inside a bulletproof, climate controlled case in the Turin’s cathedral. There are many believers in the ‘Shroud of Turin’ and it has already drawn 2 million eyeballs till now, even though the visitors get hardly 3-5 minutes to view it.

When the Pope visited the cathedral, then the Turin archbishop Cardinal Severino Poletto welcomed him in the cathedral and also asked him to join the numerous people who have prayed before the sepia-toned cloth, “this sacred linen that speaks in an impressive way of the Passion of Christ.”
