Polish Authorities Undertake Comprehensive Search For Auschwitz Sign

Warsaw, Dec.20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The police authorities of Poland have undertaken more comprehensive security checks specifically in airports and border area, in a bid to find the Nazi sign that went missing from the Auschwitz death camp. In a theft that has kept the Polish authorities grappling for evidence, the “Arbeit macht frei” sign was stolen on Friday from the main entrance of the infamous death camp which witnessed the killings of more 1 million people during the Second World War.
The sign “Arbeit macht frei” which means “Work Will Set You Free” in German adorned the front gate entrance of the death camp memorial and is the symbol of the torture meted out to the victims [especially Jews] under Hitler. The theft has gathered immense attention from across the world and this has propelled the Polish authorities to take immediate action to find the infamous Nazi sign and bring the culprits to book. Piotr Cywinski, director of the Auschwitz museum has expressed that looking at the manner in which the theft has been carried out indicates that it has been done by professionals.
It has been revealed that the Polish authorities have assigned around 50 officers to thoroughly search the camp in order to gain evidences that might provide a breakthrough in the ongoing investigation. Moreover, the authorities have also taken the security guards present at the camp for questioning and the scrap metal business in the adjoining area is also being kept under the preview of the investigation. Moreover, the museum authorities as well as the police have announced rewards for anybody who can provide any relevant information in the case.
