July 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A suicide bomb vest which had not been detonated was found by Ugandan police Monday in a black laptop bag which was left at a club in the Makindye district of Kampala, one day after 76 fans of the World Cup were killed by twin explosions.

Abas Byakagaba, who is the head of the Ugandan Police counter-terrorism division, stated that the unexploded vest was found by a resident of Kampala on Monday at the club. The laptop bag contained the vest as well as two huge slabs of tan colored explosive substance that had been fitted with a detonator that was electronic.

“What you see here are explosives, including the blue wires. Inside the brownish material are the ball bearings. Those are meant to accelerate the effect of the explosives. And here is the jacket, where all these materials are supposed to go,” Byakagaba stated as he held up the vest for everyone to see.

The police have not discovered why the vest was left in the location. They suspect that the perpetrator may have changed their mind before detonating the vest, which looked as those it was designed to be planted and not set off by suicide bomber.

The police in Uganda have studied the vest for clues in connection with the deaths of 76 World Cup fans yesterday when similar bombs were detonated in dual attacks. “What we found here is consistent with what we found on both scenes of crime. So, this is a very significant lead in our investigation,” said Ugandan police chief, Kale Kayihura. At least four people have been arrested in connection with those bombings, but their nationalities have been withheld.
