London, Mar 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Police dog bites have costed thousands of pounds for tax-payers in UK. According to a report by BBC, police officials have so far paid around 770,000 pounds as compensation to all the victims of the police dog bites.

Radio 4’s You and Yours also reported that in one instance, a single dog bite costed the police forces almost 50,000 pounds. Greater Manchester holds the record of paying the majority of the compensation figures and so far the organization has paid out more than 180,000 pounds. Trailing in the second place is The Metrolpolitan Police who have so far spent about 95,000 pounds as compensation.

West Midlands Police holds the record for having the maximum number of dog bites at 644 incidents.

Pensioner Brian Kiddell is one such victim and he recounts his ordeal as, “Suddenly police officers were there with a loud hailer saying there is a police dog loose on the site. Next thing I knew this Alsatian had his teeth in my ankle and just held on. There was a police helicopter overhead so no-one could hear my cries. It’s the most frightening experience I ever had in my life.”
