Hilton Head Island, March 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) An emergency landing made by a single-engine plane on the beach of the Hilton Head Island took the life of a jogger on Monday evening. The incident took place around 6:10 PM. The jogger whose name is reportedly revealed to be Robert Jones was listening to music in his i-pod while jogging when he was struck by the plane from behind.
The 38 year old victim, Robert Jones was a resident of Woodstock Georgia. He, according to a sources’ revelation, frequented the Hilton Head Island for business purpose and had gone this time for a meeting with GlaxoSmithKline. According to his mother, he was very particular about his health and preferred jogging and other physical exercise. According to aviation expert Mary Schiavo, the plane did not make any noise due to its engine failure and therefore the jogger did not get any inkling of the plane’s landing.
The pilot of the plane, Edward I.Smith could not see through the windshield as it was darkened by the leaking oil. The propeller tore off the plane and though he was instructed to land at the Hilton Head Island Airport, he made an emergency landing on the beach as the condition was getting worse. Some experts explained that with the condition of the plane being such, the plane was basically gliding before it ultimately hit the jogger and landed on the beach. The passenger in the plane, reportedly named David Henry, was unhurt. Robert Jones was due to return to his family just a day after for his three year old daughter’s birthday celebration.
