Piffard, New York man accused of receiving false unemployment benefits arrested
February 11th, 2010 - 2:30 pm ICT by BNO NewsGENESEO, NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) — A Piffard, New York resident who allegedly received unemployment benefits from filing false claims was charged with grand larceny and falsifying business records, state police said on Tuesday.
Joshua J. Ryan, 22, was arrested by officers and charged on one count Grand Larceny 3rd degree, a class D Felony, one count of Falsifying Business Records 1st degree and one count of Offering a False Instrument for Filing 1st degree, which both are class E Felonies.
The charges stem from an investigation by the New York State Department of Labor and the New York State Police where Ryan was discovered to have received unemployment benefits totaling $6,135 between April and August of 2009, from filing false claims.
Ryan was arraigned by Town of York Justice Purtell and remanded to Livingston County Jail in lieu of $6000 cash bail or $12,000 secured bond.
