anniNew York, Jan 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The world would now know how Annie Moore, the first immigrant to have landed on New York’s Ellis Island, actually looked. Reportedly, relatives of the Irish woman who landed on the island in New York harbor way back on January 1, 1892, have found two photographs which they believe is of the actual Annie Moore.

The Irish woman was known to be among the first immigrants who passed through the Ellis Island of the New York harbor when she was just 15 years old. Information about Annie Moore was extremely limited till now and it was believed that she moved to Texas where later she passed away due to a car accident. However, recently it came to light that she actually never moved out of New York after she disembarked here and continued to live in the Lower East Side until her death, which took place in the year 1924.

A newspaper recently revealed that in 2006, Michael Shulman, Annie Moore Schayer’s great-nephew teamed up with the fourth generation descendants of the Irish lady to embark on a journey to find whether the Annie Moore of their family was in reality the first immigrant to have landed on American soil. Schayer was the Irish lady’s married name and the relatives got the hunch that their “Ma Schayer” was indeed Annie Moore, as one of their aunts constantly insisted so.

Meanwhile, Genealogist Megan Smolenyak who helped the Irish woman’s family to unearth the pictures, has added that Annie Moore had to live a very hard life while she resided in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
