anni New York, Jan 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Pictures of Annie Moore who was the first immigrant to land at the Ellis Island have been found. She was a teenager when she landed at the Island and she was amongst the 12 million immigrants who set foot on that place on the 1st of January 1892.

Very little is known about what happened to her after she shifted to New York. Until now it was believed that she had died in a car accident after she moved to Texas. But it is now known that she never moved out of New York and she lived in Lower East Side until she died in 1924.

According to reports in 2006, Michael Shulman, who is Annie Moore Schayer’s great-nephew made a group with the fourth generation descendants of the Irish lady to embark on a journey to find whether the Annie Moore of their family was in reality the first immigrant to have landed on American soil. Schayer was the Irish lady’s married name and the relatives got the idea that their “Ma Schayer” was in fact indeed Annie Moore, as one of their aunts constantly insisted so.

Meanwhile, Genealogist Megan Smolenyak who was instrumental in discovering the pictures said that Annie Moore had a very hard life after she landed as the first immigrant. She used to reside in the Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
