Pi Beta Phi Sorority’s Bad Behavior:’Animal House’ Meets ‘Girls Gone Wild’?
May 26th, 2010 - 3:12 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonMay 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) On April 1, 2010, a report was filed with the Parkersburg Police citing that the girls from Pi Beta Phi sorority had destroyed property at the Parkersburg Art Center during a winter formal. The events, which were compared by the Art Center’s lawyer to scenes from the movie, ‘Animal House’ caused nearly 47,000 dollars worth of damage to his place of employment, according to Dwayne Hartley, who filed the report.
During his statement, Hartley informed the police that the Center would not be returning the sorority’s 1200 dollar deposit fee which they had paid when they rented the center for the winter formal, and he was also asking for 46,555 dollars in damages that the girls had caused. An attorney for the Parkersburg Art Center stated that the OU chapter of the Pi Beta Phi sorority had nearly destroyed the place during the event which was held on March 6. The girls and guests engaged in food fights, purposely poured drinks out in the carpet, ripped a bathroom sink from the wall, while a couple was said to have been having sex on it, having sex under the banquet table, throwing up on carpet, attempting to rip off a waitress’s clothes, and many other destructive actions, according to the lawyer, Richard A. Hayhurst.
But the sorority claims the allegations are terrible exaggerated. The following statement was released by the Pi Beta Phi sorority: “The chapter believes the claims of damage made by the Art Center have been grossly exaggerated,” and the Art Center has failed to provide documentation for why it should keep the $1,200 deposit and receive the more than $46,000 it is seeking, the sorority’s statement said. “We expect that our chapters and their members will conduct themselves in compliance with our rules and the law. We also respect their right to defend against unfair and undocumented claims.”
A video can be seen below promoting the Pi Beta Phi sorority, who has recently had it’s Miami chapter suspended for misconduct. The members of Alpha Xi Delta at Miami University were accused of much the same behavior, smoking inside the National Underground Railroad Museum, trashing the dance floor, and bathrooms, vomiting everywhere, urinating all over, just after their own Pi Beta Phi sorority was suspended for a year for property damage at the local lakeside lodge, including more sexual misconduct, pubic urination, and destruction of property.
