Phoenix woman pleads guilty for theft of Veteran benefits
February 27th, 2010 - 2:56 am ICT by BNO NewsPHOENIX, ARIZONA (BNO NEWS) – A Phoenix woman pleaded guilty on Thursday to theft of Government funds from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), prosecutors announced on Friday.
Peggy Sue Salazar, 48, admitted that from 2007 to 2008, she stole $14,963 from her veteran father’s VA Compensation and Pension Benefits. Salazar was the fiduciary and legal custodian for her father, a World War II veteran. She used the stolen money for gambling at a local casino instead of using it on her father’s behalf.
Salazar faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine or both.
