sadie Westminster, Feb 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) PETA kept its promise that it would protest at the Westminster dog show. Group members of PETA decked up in Klansman robes, turned up at the 133rd annual Westminster dog show, and handed out brochures that read, “The KKK and the AKC: BFF?” The PETA supporters said that the purebred dogs suffer from breeding practices that are designed in such a way, that they make potential show winners rather than healthy dogs.

In response to such accusations, the Westminster spokesman and commentator David Frei told the Associated Press, “I can’t speak for everyone, but the vast majority of the people exhibiting and handling and showing at Westminster are more interested in the health of dogs than anything else … We want to produce the next generation of healthy and happy dogs, not just for the show ring but for the couches at home.” When the PETA activists were protesting, then the police was watching and monitoring the whole situation from a distance, but as the scene was basically calm and peaceful, so they also did not intervene.

PETA and other animal rights groups say that the dog breeding increases the issue of pet overpopulation, as homeless dogs die in shelters due to scarcity of homes, while breeders continue to produce new puppies
