Personal belongings of Queen Victoria up for auction

London, Nov 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Personal belongings of Queen Victoria will be auctioned off today (the 1st of November 2011). The auction house Lyon and Turnbull will supervise the sale.

Among the collection being sold is a pair white silk undergarments which is expected to fetch about £3,000. The event will be held at the salesroom of the auction house in Edinburgh. The auctioneers expect to realize between £1.5 million and £2 million after the sale on Tuesday.

The art adviser to the Forbes family and the director of Fine Arts Society, Simon Edsor, said that, “Examples of the Queen’s belongings have long been considered the crowning glory for Victoriana collectors. In the past few years several items have come up for auction and made excellent prices, with interest from around the world.”

Among the personal items which will be sold at the auction is a four poster bed. It is reported that Dame Elizabeth and her seventh husband slept on that particular bed. The bed is valued at £12,000.

The Old Battersea House is the family house of the Forbes family in London. The family is one of the most powerful in the world and they welcomed guests like Ronald and Nancy Reagan to their London home.
