pentecost1May 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Christians will celebrate Pentecost Sunday on May 23 this year. Locals will get together to mark the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples of Christ. At the Cathedral of Christ The King, the guest preacher will be Jason Epps who is originally from Tennessee and grew up in Georgia. He became a black belt in karate by the time he turned 14 and later took interest in football later.

Pentecost Sunday is celebrated in the US by many families 50 days after Easter. This year’s celebrations will include a grand feast, light and sound shows with the Pentecost theme and community garage sales. The Pentecost is closely related to the Jewish harvest festival- Shavuot, and both the communities will celebrate the historical day.

In America, this Sunday will see a variety of activities by the locals at the town’s churches. North Coventry will have a flea market hosted by the The Garden Club of Coventry Church of the Brethren. In Pottstown, a Rite of Confirmation will take place under the assistance of the seniors of the community and there will be feast following the ritual. The First Baptist Church will offer a review of the original Pentecost story and have a discussion emphasizing the inclusion of new members. In Phoenixville, parishioners will be wearing red in order to commemorate Pentecost Sunday. A show of ‘Noah, the Musical’ will be held at the Hopewell Community Church at Upper Pottsgrove.

On the Gregorian Calendar, the Pentecost can fall anywhere between May 23 to June 6 and it is sometimes described as the ‘Birthday of the Church’.
