November 6, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Mr. Jones, the 39 year old Rugby teacher was visited by a teenage boy who had a Beretta air pistol concealed in his clothing. Darren Jones was shocked to find himself facing the wrong end of the pistol as he looked up from tying his shoe laces. The boy alleged that Jones had refused to pay heed to his medical complaint and had made him play rugby.

Karen Kirkwood, the prosecutor at the youth court of Brecon, south Wales, said that the instructor failed to believe his eyes for a moment. He then heard a sharp sound like that of a fire cracker going off and saw blood trickling down from his chin. It was when he saw the boy running away that he realized he had been shot. The boy had again leveled the gun at his instructor when he saw that he was being chased. Mr Jones apparently ducked for cover and looked up to find the boy still holding the gun on his head.

Jones then raised an alarm via telephone after locking himself in his room. The school too went into a lockdown until the police arrived at the scene of action. The law enforcement authorities found the boy loitering near the swimming pool and the pistol was soon recovered from him.

The court heard all about how the boy had been given detention by Jones and how he reacted angrily on account of being madse fun of by his fellow students. He has now been placed under eight months of referral order and told to pay 300 pounds to Mr Jones as compensation. The fine is likely to be paid by his grandmother with whom he lives.
