Pawtucket, RI man sentenced for drug and firearm charges

PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND (BNO NEWS) – A resident of Pawtucket, Rhode Island was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for drug trafficking and firearms charges, prosecutors announced on Friday.

Pedro Michael Goncalves, 28, was arrested On May 3, 2006, by agents of the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Taskforce. HIDTA agents were about to execute a search warrant in Providence and Pawtucket residences used by Goncalves, when the suspect realized the police surveillance and fled.

Officers chased Goncalves through the city of Providence and into Pawtucket. During the chase, three law agents were involved in car accidents and one Rhode Island trooper was injured. Goncalves was finally arrested in Pawtucket.

At the Providence apartment, which was used as a stash house, agents seized 92.43 grams of crack cocaine. The other search warrant executed at a location in Pawtucket resulted in 10.43 grams of crack secured.

Inside Goncalves’ vehicle, a .45 caliber handgun was found, loaded with seven hollow-point bullets. In the gas cap of the vehicle, 65.43 grams of powder cocaine were discovered.
