Paul Warner PowellVirginia, Mar 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A man from Virginia named Paul Warner Powell has been executed for murdering and raping Stacie Reed, as per the sentence he was given. The 31-year-old man chose the electric chair as the mode of execution and refused lethal injection. He was asked if he had anything to say for the last time but declined to make any comment. He was convicted for the crime 10 years back. He stabbed Stacie Reed, a 16-year-old girl. He also tried to kill and rape her sister. After the verdict was overturned by the Virginia Supreme Court he penned taunting letters describing his acts to the prosecutors. He was again nabbed for the act in 2003.

The letter that he wrote to Paul Ebert, the attorney of Prince William County Commonwealth was replete with profanity. It was 4 pages long. He attacked the sisters and raped them. However, the younger sister survived his attacks. She testified against him in the court. He admitted the crime and later said that it was quite senseless. Bob McDonnell, the governor of the state did not want to stall the execution and the challenges made by the convict were turned down by the court.

He did not select lethal injection as the drug may result in prolonged suffering if it is not administered correctly to a person. His attorney said that in the last ten years he had changed drastically as a person. Virginia is among the US states that still offer electrocution. His execution took place at the Greensville Correctional Center and a century old armchair was used for the purpose.
