State media cited officials as saying that at least 46 people had been injured, but said there were no reports of fatalities. An airport official told Iran’s Student News Agency that none of the injured were in serious condition.
The Tupolev Tu-154 airliner was carrying 156 passengers, some who were suffering from shock and stress after the accident, according to reports. The MEHR News Agency reported that the aircraft originated from Abadan, a city in southwestern Iran.
There were conflicting reports on what happened, and the extend of the damage. A photo from the Fars News Agency showed a heavily damaged airliner lying on its top.
