August 24th, 2010 - 11:02 pm ICT by BNO NewsBEIJING (BNO NEWS) — A passenger plane carrying more than 90 people crashed in northeast China on late Tuesday evening, state media reported, but few details were immediately available.
The aircraft belonging to regional Henan Airlines went down in Yichun City, a city in Heilongjiang Province, at around 10.10 p.m. local time. A total of 91 people were believed to be on board, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency.
Xinhua initially reported that 96 passengers and crew were on board, but later revised the figure.
Heilongjiang provincial civil aviation authorities said the Embraer E190 aircraft, with tail number VD8387, went down near Yichun’s Lindu airport. Xinhua did not say if the aircraft, which left Harbin just before 9 p.m. local time, crashed in a residential area.
Rescuers are rushing to the scene. Further details were not immediately available.
